When I was at NATPE last month, I played a word association game with Average Betty. Check it out:
In the Bacon is God food category: Yesterday at the LG Celebrity Chef Kitchen at NATPE, a chef made Bacon Ice Cream with dried ice. It was also carbonated. Carbonated Bacon Ice Cream. Very strange. Did I eat it all? Of course! It was made by Richard Blais of Top Chef and Iron Chef fame.

I've been in Las Vegas hosting the LG Celebrity Chef Kitchen at the NATPE convention. It's been pretty interesting. Usually when I interview people it's in a studio and I get an audio peek at what they're doing in their lives. It's considerably different to watch talented, passionate chefs, teachers and wine educators stand up and do their thing for an audience. It's very fun and educational. I love that I still learn something everyday in this food centered life.
A terrific side benefit to this trip to Vegas was the chance to catch up with beloved LA Thai ambassador Chef Jet Tila at his new restaurant Wazuzu in the new Wynn Encore. Eight of us sat under a $1.4 million dollar crystal dragon and had a simply marvelous meal. We were all starving so the huge glass lazy susan in the middle of our enormous table was spinning rapidly delivering dishes. From a start of a gorgeous assortment of Sashimi and Sushi I've ever had to unbelievably delicious Shu Mai and Har Gow, to Kalbi, Pinapple Rice, Thai Curry and Steamed Fish with ginger Sauce it was uniformly beautifully prepared and full of flavors. The coup de grace was an assortment of house made ice creams and generous bowls of shaved ice with homemade sweet red beans, candied pineapple, shaved green mango, vanilla bean ice cream topped with condensed milk.
And just to top it all off, I staggered to a slot machine and won my airfare in 15 minutes!!!
